What I found strange with the anime is that they really did cut off some crucial little bits of information that actually do address some glaring plot holes, such as Nyanko sensei not killing off Natsume which in the manga is made more clear in the first chapter that Nyanko actually seemed to like Reiko and wanted to safeguard the book for that same reason (I still do not know why they left that out. Or the fact that he isn't in the book as Reiko never beat him.

What I liked about this anime as well is that the show compared to most of the anime that came out that season *coughgeasscough* is that Natsume Yuujinchou stayed simple. Which in a sense does kind of mar the series in that unlike Kurenai or Kaiba, which came out that season, it just doesn't offer more than its relaxing pace. But still that relaxing pace and warm story telling is also the strength of the series, yet as you mentioned I wish they would develop other characters too which they sorta do from what I read but its not much what I am excited in with the new season is the Reiko chapter getting animated or perhaps the kind neko that watched over Natsume. I guess cats really do make all the difference XD
