Hanners: I can see where people are coming from with their complaints about the ending, but even so I agree with you- overall the film was great.

Hige: Glad you liked my post- I didn’t think it was one of my better reviews but it’s always hard to find a lot to say about a single movie as opposed to a full TV series. And I always look forward to your posts; if it helps, think of a low posting rate as keeping the audience hungry for more ;)

Runningkid: There are so many novels I want translated, I really should improve my Japanese reading skills from ‘practically nonexistent’ to something more substantial while I wait.

I shouldn’t be concerned about how much a film/show as been blogged already. People visit blogs for specific viewpoints and don’t mind repetition/delayed analysis assuming it’s done with panache and intelligence, as demonstrated here.

At least, this is what I tell myself when I post once a month. :(

I agree that the domesticity of the film is what really sets it apart. I came to it merely expecting film-budget animation of Sadamoto character design and found something much more substantial. Who knew superficiality could reap such rewards? Something to teach the kids, s’pose.

Best film of the year, in my estimation. It won my “emotional satisfaction” award for a reason. I really, really wish more anime were like this.

I absolutely loved this movie. I know some people have slated the ending a bit for various reasons, but I can’t think of many other things more enjoyable to watch than this over the past twelve months – Taken as a whole, it really is a beautiful piece of work.
