Hello and welcome to another edition of Sunday News Bites! This week we are joined by Light Yagami, here to judge the week’s news with the power of the Death Note.
HaruToki 3 announced
Can’t get enough of bishounen-filled reverse harem shows? Then you’ll be delighted to learn that the latest Harukanaru Toki no Naka De anime adaptation has been announced- a one hour special based on the third game. The special is set to be released in December, and will no doubt be as dull and lacking in any real plot as the other Haruka anime adaptations and their sister series Angelique and La Corda d’Oro.
Light says: These bishounen are unworthy, and shall have their names written in my Death Note. Continue Reading »

At the village, Romeo finds that all the crops have failed, crushing his Harvest Moon dreams.
Romeo: How can this be happening? I followed all the instructions in the manual!
Giovanni: Looks like we bought a special edition of Harvest Moon with more challenging requirements.
Romeo: Well then, we’ll just have to reset and start a new game.
(Romeo: And I’m going to find that guy who gave me those ‘magical’ seeds! I can’t believe I fell for one of the oldest tricks in the book!) Continue Reading »

Welcome back to the lengthiest and most pointless project undertaken by this blog, now in its second and final part. First, a couple of disclaimers- I understand that Twelve Kingdoms is very good, but until my DVD boxsets arrive, I can’t comment. Also, Oh! Edo Rocket must be left out until it finishes airing.
Mahou Shoujotai

What’s it about?: Alice has always believed in magic, so when she is transported to a world of witches and wizards, it should be like a dream come true. Unfortunately, contrary to her idealistic vision, the people of this world do not use magic only to bring happiness, and so Alice feels compelled to make everyone listen to her optimistic views- and, naïve as they may seem, they may be the only hope of finding a way to save a dying world and ward off a plan to use powerful black Continue Reading »

Once you’ve watched a certain amount of anime (aka, more than is probably good for you), there comes a point when top ten lists don’t really do the job of encapsulating your favourites anymore. When such a time comes, the only thing you can do to showcase your favourites is make a highly ambitious and incredibly lengthy post about not just ten, but fifty-plus anime that you feel you absolutely must recommend to everyone. Such was the origin of this post, and so it was that after much thought, a hefty list of no fewer than sixty series were collected together. Some of them could never make it onto an overall top ten list, but they are nonetheless so good at what they do that they still require a mention in some capacity.
On a side note, don’t expect the likes of Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop and Evangelion to appear on here. Whilst the first two at least are certainly solid enough, they appear on recommendation lists throughout the land, and it’s time they stood aside to let worthier series get some of the spotlight. I hate to admit it, but last night I watched an episode of…Lucky Star. No, I haven’t been infected by neural parasites, but I realise that I needed to at least sample it before I write the KyoAni review I keep promising. Thankfully, it wasn’t as bad as feared, but nor can I call it good- instead it plays, and I remain completely indifferent to it. For this reason, I watch one episode per night right before sleep, for it gets my mind into shutdown mode.
Shounen Onmyouji X Dennou Coil
An unlikely pairing, perhaps, but this crossover was suggested with but one aim in mind- the alliance of Isako and Kazane. Whilst Isako takes the role of chief villain in the series, Kazane becomes her loyal underling, and together the two girls achieve the one thing most villains cannot- they actually manage to take over the world. Can anyone stand against the combination of futuristic encoder techniques and the onmyou magic of historical fantasy? Find out on Dennou Onmyouji, aka Shounen Coil! Continue Reading »

Damekko Doubutsu, Adventures of Mini-Goddess, Nekojiru Gekijou- in their time, each of them offered short comedy skits that amused, bored or repelled, depending on your sense of humour. Now joining them on the list of “five minute comedies” is Gag Manga Biyori, a series just as random as anything that has gone before, and tied together by even less of a plot. Continue Reading »

Ling Tong pays a visit to Sun Quan.
Ling Tong: I’m sorry to ask for HARD GAY at such short notice, Sun Quan.
Sun Quan: Ling Tong, you should know that I am always ready for HARD GAY with you.

Ling Tong: Sir, I’m afraid this will be the last HARD GAY we can have together for a while, for I feel my chances of screen time are better served by going after Aniki.
Sun Quan: I understand- you’re worried that he’ll dump you for Zhuge Liang if you don’t go with him, right? Continue Reading »

Manga gets one step closer to world domination
Even an anime blog can skim the surface of politics, it seems, with the recent resignation of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe putting self-proclaimed manga fan Tarō Asō in the running for the job. In the wake of this news, stocks in anime and manga related companies have duly been going up, although fans should take off their rose-tinted glasses and look at the man’s policies before getting too excited.
