Hello and welcome to another edition of Sunday News Bites! Now that we’ve all settled down after the belated airing of the final episode of School Days (complete with nice boat) and the continuation of Higurashi Kai, let’s get to the other news of the week, with the help of returning fat cat guests, Mikoto and Aria. Geneon pulls out of the DVD business
It’s official- with the ADV deal having fallen through, Geneon has decided to bow out of DVD distribution and marketing. As of last Friday, they have stopped accepting orders for DVDs, and only those with a release date on or before November 6th will be sent out. This leaves several series unfinished or unreleased, whilst existing Geneon stock will most likely be out of print for the foreseeable future once retailers sell out- in other words, if you don’t buy it now, you may never get the chance to. They were meant to be inseparable twin sisters, but now Suiseiseki and Souseiseki have ended up on opposite sides- one serving a master acting on a long-held grudge, and the other desperate to save her twin from doing anything rash. With the help of Jun, Shinku and Hinaichigo, Suiseiseki decides to confront her sister, but if she cannot persuade her to stand down, they will have no choice but to do battle.

With most anime, it’s usually a case of straightforward like or dislike, but right from the start, Nodame Cantabile was different. It tantalised me with its leads and the things we might have in common, frustrated me with off-kilter humour and wacky side characters and in general formed a surprisingly complex relationship with me. With this in mind, was it any wonder that I would eventually turn to the original manga in order to see what happened to Chiaki, Nodame and the rest after the anime had ended? Continue Reading »

For reasons best known to myself, I have gone ahead and changed theme from my beloved MistyLook to Seashore, but whereas for some people that would be enough, I just have to go one further- for this reason, I will be creating an unholy fusion of the two themes that will hopefully combine the best of both of them. Unfortunately, until such time as that is mastered, the blog will be passing through various phases of hideous brokenness- please do not be alarmed by any horrors you see on here in the meantime.

Hinata Himawari has aspired to become a ninja ever since the day one saved her from a plane crash, and where better to train than at an all-girls kunoichi academy located in the Village of Mist? Even though all the other students are genetically engineered to be superior ninjas, Himawari is determined to make up for it with sheer optimism and hard work- after all, she has to protect her self-proclaimed master, teacher Marikouji Hayato. Another newcomer to the school, Hayato is a normal person who only took on a teaching job to pay off a two million yen debt, but in between eking out living expenses and trying to get students to actually attend his ‘general education’ classes, life proves to be anything but simple.
