As for the side characters I think that if Stresemann was serious about his teachings he would just be like any other boring teacher and that would change the series completely. It's kind of hard creating a music themed anime especially when you are trying to make classical music interesting for the general audience, Nodame Cantabile does a nice job but as for the series overall I think I prefer the live-action version like many others. Bad points for me is an extreme lack of animation, especially during the music pieces. Although I can perfectly understand why it is so.
